Hasty Bake Gourmet Charcoal Grill/ Smoker/ Outdoor Oven Review

Hi, I’m Chef Tony Matassa, in this video we are checking out a super unique grill in the barbeque world, this is the Hasty Bake. It’s been made in the United States since 1948. This particular grill is for the person who likes to use charcoal, but wants that accuracy & control to where they can bake, steam, smoke, grill, sear, you name it, you can do it in this with charcoal, let’s have a look inside. The hasty bake gourmet grill features a spacious top rack that can be used as a warming rack, or additional room to smoke food. It slides out for easy removal when not needed. The main cooking area of the Hasty Bake Gourmet measures 19 inches deep by 28 inches wide, and can comfortably grill 24 burgers at time. The cooking grids are stainless steel, and they angle towards the center, so that they direct drippings to this grease trough beneath them.Grease collected in the trough runs through this hole on the left side of the grill, and into this grease pan, making for easy cleanup. Beneath the cooking grids, you will find Hasty Bake’s stainless steel adjustable charcoal tray. For easily adding charcoal or wood chips while cooking, this can be accessed from the side door of the grill. It can be easily removed for cleaning. The charcoal tray is adjusted by this crank on the bottom left side of the grill. When set to the searing position, the charcoal basket is positioned close to the cooking grids, creating the perfect environment for searing steaks.. The infrared heat coming from the charcoal caramelizes the entire surface of the steaks, just look at those sizzling juices! The middle heat zone setting works well for baking. This gives the heat from the charcoal more area to spread out to form convective heat as it rises. Hasty bake features this removable stainless steel heat deflector. This allows you to pile your charcoal underneath, and shield your food from direct heat. Let’s see how the hasty bake performs with these cinnamon rolls. The lid of the hasty bake has this convenient tempered glass window to monitor the progress while your food cooks. After about 10 minutes, these cinnamon rolls are looking nice and golden! I love how they pick up some subtle smokiness while they bake. Now all that is left to do is melt some icing over them! The design of the hasty bake forces the heat and smoke to roll evenly over your food before exiting the top vent flaps on either side of the hood. The flaps are stainless steel, and can be set to a variety of positions depending on your desired temperature. When it comes to smoking, simply set the charcoal basket to the bottom position. I like to bank the charcoal under the heat deflector, and place a water pan on top of the deflector. Take a look at these ribs.... The smoke rolls over them while they cook, leading to this beautiful mahogany color. I’ll baste them with some bbq sauce, then it is time to eat! I love the amount of space I have for smoking on the hasty bake, with a lot of charcoal grills you have to bank your coals to one side, leaving only half of the area for the food you are smoking. With the charcoal basket on the lowest setting, and your heat deflector over the charcoal, it creates the perfect setup for smoking across the whole cooking surface. After you are done cooking, cleanup of the ash is made simple with this full width slide out drip pan. Other nice features of the hasty bake gourmet are stainless steel front and side tables for extra prep space and a hood mounted thermometer for temperature monitoring. Now we will perform the xrf test on the Hasty Bake gourmet grill. The cooking grids, grill body, charcoal basket, and drip pan all tested to be 304 stainless steel.
